Howdy!

Well, folks, unfortunately it's not that I've gotten behind on writing blog posts about all of our fun adventures. The fact is there hasn't been anything too grand and adventurous to write about in the past couple weeks as the real life of work kind of took over our lives as well with Caleb at the hospital and me having consistent babysitting everyday for a few weeks. This has now taken a turn for the best! Caleb starts his 12 hour night shifts next Wednesday evening, and I'm going down to just babysitting Tuesday afternoons and a couple hours on Friday mornings. Good news is night shifts are completely his thing. He worked night shifts for a while before we were married and loved it. I've never seen someone who is as much a night owl as him. Many of our friends and family already know this about him. Before we were married and after married, Caleb would stay up until wee hours of the morning like 4 or 5 because it was impossible for him to fall asleep. He had tried many things to help him fall asleep: Reading, listening to music, trying to fall asleep without music, cutting out caffeine including no sodas, going for a run, and many more things. He has given me permission to share all of this because it's a very interesting fact about him. This night-owlish syndrome. I thankfully knew this about him well before we got married. I knew about it during high school because he'd come to school with just 5 hours of sleep. His parents obviously knew about his sleeping as well, and had their concerns at points but after a while, just like I eventually did, came to realize that this is how his body was and it didn't affect him really at all. He usually always has and still does function great on 4-5 hours of sleep. It was hard for me at first because I'm a huge believer in everyone's body needing rest and I get my 8-9 hours of sleep each night. Caleb and I have joked about him getting sleep tests done to see if there is any medical reason or conclusion, but of course sleep studies cost money and that's money we don't want to spend right now. Maybe someday we will have sleep studies done or maybe not after what a nursing teacher at the hospital told Caleb.

I'm going to put in Caleb's words paraphrased here to describe the possible medical reason for sleeping differently he learned at the hospital during nursing orientation. I haven't done any further research into this and had not heard about this before so feel free to research this if it interests you or you know someone similar to Caleb. Here is what Caleb was told during one of his orientation classes. It's normal for your circadian rhythm to be different during teenage years up until 25. This is common in males. A lot of people experience it during the teenage years, where they start staying up later because when they lay in bed they literally just can't fall asleep. Usually it doesn't last too long past teenage years, but for some it does. Have you ever had that feeling where you get in bed and you just aren't tired yet, but you know you have to get up in the morning? Yeah, that's the feeling Caleb has. After we got married, I have seen him lay in bed for up to 3 hours not being able to fall asleep. Of course, I fall asleep but I'd roll over and wake up and there'd he'd be still laying in bed awake just listening to soft music and I'd ask him if he'd been able to sleep yet. As I mentioned earlier, he tried lots of things. Now all of this information just to say that this is a great thing for him as he starts night shifts next week! He is so excited about taking advantage of being able to stay up late, and getting to sleep all morning long. For me, there will be more of an adjustment getting used to him sleeping during the day so while I'm home hopefully I'll take advantage of that time to get things done so I won't be bothering him.

This was kind of a different and strange blog post so I'd love to hear what any of you think and if you have some crazy questions. I know the people in his nursing class can account for him sleeping in school because obviously if he stayed up until 6 in the morning some night then he's going to be falling asleep with his head laying on the desk at an 8 o clock class. That's the one thing about staying up all night and not being tired. He gets tired in the morning and hits the point of falling asleep. Tell me if you know anyone like Caleb or have a funny story about Caleb.
