On the road again...to Gunnison!

I have fond memories of my grandfather, Gil Hagin, singing the lyrics, "On the road again. Just can't wait to get on the road again from Willie Nelson's song most every time we were getting in his van to travel with him and my grandma. I can still hear him singing those lyrics whenever I am heading out on a road trip, and I just can't help repeating them. My children and grandchildren will be hearing that anytime we travel.  Click here to listen to "On the Road Again" song on Youtube

Well, this past weekend Caleb and I hit the road again to go see Krista in Gunnison! I always love looking forward to going to Gunnison and just soak up every minute while we are there. Gunnison is a town (technically it is a city, but it has a feel of a town) of about 5,000 people and half of that is made up of students who attend the university Western State Colorado University in town. The town is a valley in the Rockies with an elevation about 7,683 feet. Something I loved to do when I first found out where Krista was moving too was go on Google maps and then zoom into Gunnison, CO on the satellite image. It gives you an idea of the size of the town and how it's situated in the mountains. The town is surrounded with lots of green countryside and a lot of the land belongs to cattle ranchers. It is always refreshing to get away to this small town and have the "being in the middle of nowhere" feeling. Although this is a small town there is always something new to do and explore each time we go to Gunnison. Since it's in the Rockies there are many other small mountain towns that are even smaller than Gunnison. We went to one this past weekend called Lake City. Its population is only 401. It was exactly what I picture when I think of a mountain town. We've been to lots of small towns in the mountains, but each one has its own character and unique aspects. Krista, Caleb, and I also did some hiking around an area called Beaver Pond. The sky was overcast off and on with clear spots of blue sky peeking through. Our walk was relaxing as there would be light sprinkles of rain and the woods smelled of damp wood. Here is a picture journal of our weekend in Gunnison and Lake City, CO.

The aspen trees are starting to turn yellow here!

We found the Secret Garden! Daniel lived in Lake City for a few months so he knew some neat places for us to see.

Most of the buildings in Lake City looked like miniature versions of buildings. Small western mountain town feel

On Monday, before we headed back home we made a quick trip up to Crested Butte (where the ski resort is) and had lunch with Krista, Daniel, and some of their friends to celebrate Daniel's roommates birthday. We ate at a neat little Mexican restaurant. Loved all the fresh veggies and cilantro on my tacos! Thanks for such a fun weekend, Krista!

There is always something to smile at and laugh about with these two. I love having such a creative husband and fun "fake" sister. That's for you, Krista. ;)

    1. Krista, I thought you were the one who said "fake" sister jokingly when you introduced me to someone in Gunnison. Maybe not? haha Can't wait to check out Ouray! A girl from church just said today that Ouray is her favorite place and another girl said it's her dad's favorite place ever.
