My mom is from Maine and we have a lot of family who live throughout New England. This past summer Caleb & I didn't make it to Maine for vacation since we had just moved to Colorado in May and it costs a pretty penny to move cross country. This was my first summer missing out on Maine, but we got a wonderful Maine gift this past Wednesday. My aunt & uncle who live in Massachusetts shipped us live Maine lobsters. What a treat! Here is our fun time cooking lobsters in pictures:
They were shipped in a Styrofoam box which was within a regular brown shipping box. They were on ice packs and wet newspapers to keep them chilled. and yes, they were alive and squirming.
Caleb thought we should see how the cats felt about our dinner. Cheyenne was curious sniffing them and walking up close.
Now Tux was not so sure about the lobster. You can tell how he is leaning away in this picture. He wasn't a fan of these strange creatures being near him.
Ben & Gretchen even sent us some lobster crackers, moist towelettes, and bibs for eating our lobstah dinner
I told Caleb he better be ready to put the lid on the pot because I didn't want its tail flapping all over because I would probably scream if the lobster tried jumping out of the pot.
Wa-lah! A cooked lobster ready for cracking and savoring. Tip for if you cook lobster: It turning red does not mean the lobster meat is cooked. The lobster starts turning red within just a couple minutes of being in the boiling water. It needs to cook for 15-25 minutes depending on the size of the lobster.
Thanks for the lobster, Uncle Ben & Aunt Gretchen! We had such a fun evening dining on lobsters. And of course there is leftover lobster meat we are using for lobster rolls.
