This past weekend we spent 3 days with the newlyweds! Krista & Daniel have made such a cozy and welcoming home together. It is such a blessing to live only 3 hours from them.

This past weekend held a couple new ventures for me and Caleb.
We...
snowshoed for the first time
watched some ice climbers
saw the town of Ouray
soaked in some hot spring pools with snow falling on us
Picture above: Lights of the town Ouray, CO known as the Switzerland of America.
Picture to the left: One of the pools we soaked in at the hot springs outside of Ouray. We went after it was dark and the snow was falling. Many people had driven an hour from other towns to come to the hot springs because it was snowing. Picture below: Ice climber in Ouray Ice Park. The ice was a nice bright blue color.

Pictures below of our trip.
We were concerned at first about driving to Gunnison because we have to go over a mountain pass that can be pretty snow packed and icy in the winter. Thankfully, we got up there and it wasn't too bad. The snow plows had been doing a great job. I love those guys!
It was beautiful seeing all the snow covered evergreens driving over the mountain pass.
After we got into Gunnison on Friday, we drove out to Blue Mesa Reservoir which is frozen over. We had fun walking along the banks and trying to figure out when we were actually standing over the frozen water. It was hard to tell because the ice is covered with a lot of snow.
And I mean A LOT of snow. Most of the time it came up to our knees but some areas it came up to our thighs. We couldn't stop laughing when we would take a step and fall in to snow up to our thigh. It caught me off guard every time and was quite entertaining.
Soaking up quality time with my man. What fun to walk, fall, and laugh in the snow together.
I realized pretty fast that it is a lot easier to walk in someone else's footprints when the snow is this deep.
Resting after taking off running through snow that came up to my knees. Now that is a workout!
Snowshoeing on Saturday in Ouray, CO. What a fun experience. As we were strapping on our snowshoes Daniel went to check out the trail that was snow covered. No one else had been on the trail so it was untouched snow. He came back saying it looked like 4-5 feet of snow. Caleb & I had never seen that much snow at once. Needless to say we were pretty excited!
I describe snow shoeing as "lots of fun hiking in deep snow with cool contraptions on your feet." While snowshoeing we would sick down about 2 feet or so. The guys said if we didn't have snowshoes on we would have most likely sunk in the whole 4 feet or so.
Krista kept us laughing with her falls. She would fall backwards, forwards, and sideways. She would step on a snow shoe causing her to lose balance and fall. I have to say I did it once too. We did some intentional running, jumping into the air, and landing into the snow. It was awesome because you had many feet of snow to cushion your fall.
Now that's a good looking snow-shoer person.
Daniel was our trail blazer. We tried walking through the snow a couple times without walking in his footsteps and it was a challenge in that much snow. We took a break and enjoyed eating some snow.
Our awesome new brother-in-law
I love the memories we make every time we go to Gunnison.
