Spring has Sprung

Spring arrived on the 20th and with it warm weather and family for the weekend! I always enjoy spending time with family. This past weekend the Heavner siblings, now all living in Colorado, diverged together in Denver and then back in Colorado Springs. Friday was Nathan's birthday and we were able to all be together. It's neat to reflect on the different circumstances and paths that God used to bring each sibling from Greenville, SC to live somewhere in Colorado for this time.

We went to the "must see this place, but don't eat the food" restaurant of Casa Bonita in Denver. It was just as described in the quotations in the preceding sentence. Before that we had some happy hour appetizers at Steuben's in the downtown area, and the food served at tables around us smelled exquisite. I came to the conclusion it would be a great place to try for dinner some time. (When we venture into downtown Denver again for some reason).  Caleb, Nathan, and I took part in a couple Settlers of Catan games. Nathan conquered in both of them.

We enjoyed the Seven Bridges hike in the mountains one afternoon with Krista & Daniel. It was nice to get some fresh air, exercise, and enjoy the sound of the rushing river next to us. The water flow was strong with the melting snow run-off from the mountains. Sweet Pea must have enjoyed the sound of the river during the hike. She took a long nap while papa had her in the carrier during the hike. We only encountered a little bit of ice and and snow along the way. Unfortunately, we didn't take any cameras along for a group picture during the hike or Friday night out for Nathan's birthday.

Caleb and I had a couple opportunities to keep this sweet pea while her mommy and papa went out for a date night and a day of shopping. She loved looking at her book while I read through it. She sat and looked quite intently at each page. Fun colors on Dr. Seuss pages. Someone also rolled over to her side all by herself while playing! She sure did bring a lot of smiles and laughs with her big grins and little giggles over the weekend.

Now it's time for some spring skiing! Caleb and I are keeping our eye on the snow forecast for the mountains the next few weeks. Skiing in May has happened the past couple years so I'm anticipating that again after maybe a day or two in April. These warm spring days have us thinking about camping already. But as I was reminded looking out the window this morning, just because it is spring doesn't mean it's the end of seeing snow in Colorado Springs. We had a light dusting of snow this morning. I'm definitely more of a warm weather camper so camping will have to wait until it stays more consistently warm.

I've received pictures from my parents showing flowers are blooming in South Carolina. I wonder if they may still get another snow during spring as they've had some really cold wintry days and more snow than usual for them this year.
