From the Pacific to the West to the East Coast

After Hawaii, we spent two weeks in Colorado. We had a fun weekend camping with family in Colorado. Krista, Daniel, baby girl, and Nathan. We might only live in Colorado for a few weeks out of the year currently, but it still feels very much like home. Having family who are also some of our best friends makes it home too. We always look forward to getting back to have time with them. The chilly mountain air and wide open sky was refreshing. And the views were unbelievable from where we camped. We camped high up on a mountain pass with a view looking out over a valley. The mountain pass was called Paradise Divide and to give a rough estimate on location we were somewhere kind of between Crested Butte and Aspen.

We love the Rocky Mountains and its valleys.

We owe our amazing views to these guys. They knew this area would have some great options to set up camp.

The view looking down towards our camp.

Our stunning view.

Driving down dirt roads is what I love about Colorado. It feels good to really get away into the mountains. Far from any civilization and take some time to breathe and relax (that is except for the moments when you're lying in your tent awake at night wondering what kind of animal is making the noise outside of your tent. It's always nice when your husband wakes up enough to reassure you it doesn't sound big enough to be a bear).

After a week with family in Gunnison and another week in Colorado Springs, we loaded up our camping gear, clothes, and hit the road to South Carolina for Caleb's next travel nurse contract. We've been back in our hometown for almost 3 weeks. Greenville, South Carolina. Both sets of our parents are here. My brother and his wife live here. Caleb's grandmother lives in Greenville too and we are staying at her house while we're here. His other grandparents only live 2 hours away and we were able to get in a visit with them and plan to see them more.  It's been nice to spend time with family who we usually only get to see once or twice a year. Caleb is working in the ER at Greenville Memorial Hospital. It's a Level 1 trauma center and he's liking his experience so far with the busy-ness that comes with it.

Falls Park in downtown Greenville. Love the downtown area and the beautifully landscaped park. They've improved it and made it even nicer over the years since we moved away.

We are "back to reality" as some people have told us. Hawaii was our reality for 4 months and it was all I could've wanted in living in Hawaii. I didn't take any of my time there for granted. Our reality is now being in a place where all things are familiar and it's also nice (well at least we thought all things familiar until we realize after being gone for 4 years we don't remember directions all that well, have no idea what a lot of street names are, and keep finding ourselves driving the wrong direction to get places).

This travel contract is a little unusual to us because the area is so familiar and we already know a lot of people here. But one thing we still wanted to do on this contract was to get out and travel and explore the surrounding areas near us like we would anywhere else. Over Labor Day weekend, we joined the masses of people and drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC to go for a hike. We were pleasantly surprised to get out of the car at 5,000 feet elevation and find there was an actual chill in the air. 64 degrees at least felt like a chill after driving up from the 90+ temps in Greenville. We didn't think about the fact that we would be gaining some elevation on our drive and had expected a hot humid hike. We were happy that our expectations were not met and it was a cooler crisp hike. Graveyard Fields hike was easy and relaxing to sit and listen to the river and waterfall. The mountains, although very different from the CO rockies, still offer great views with the lush green forests everywhere. Wild blackberries and blueberries were growing along the hiking trail. Our hike may have taken a little longer because we had to stop and enjoy some blackberries.

We can't wait to get some camping done in the Blue Ridge mountains and Great Smoky mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee (and maybe we'll even make it to the beach once or twice while we are here). I look forward to sharing more pictures of our family and friends and our adventures traveling and enjoying the beauty of the South.
