Fall in the Southeast

We can't believe we are almost at the one year mark for Caleb being a travel nurse. In January, Caleb said the year would fly by with us moving about every 3 months. It has gone by fast, but in another sense it feels like a loooong time ago when we packed up our car and hit the road in January. Our start to this travel nursing life feels like a long time ago because we've been so many places, done many things, and met many people in the short time of only 10 months.

Caleb was offered an extension at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He signed a new contract to stay through January 21st. We are excited it works for us to be with our families for the holidays. And our family in Colorado are all coming out for a week at Thanksgiving so we'll all be together!

Pigeon Forge was the destination of our road trip in mid-October. We stayed in a little rustic cabin at a campground right at the edge of town. It was so relaxing and the temperatures were a lot cooler than in Greenville which made the weekend even more refreshing. I loved sitting on the cabin's porch swing.

Caleb's grandparents used to live in Myrtle Beach, and one of his favorite places to go was the Dixie Stampede dinner theatre show. This specific show is only in Pigeon Forge now. I wanted to check out this fun place Caleb's family has talked about for years. His family was excited for me to experience Dixie Stampede for the first time. I loved the entertainment and the food was delicious. Another fun thing we did was go to Dollywood and meet up with our friends Kelli & Nathan Sweet with their 2 year old son and Kelli's parents. It was so special spending the afternoon with them and catching up. We didn't get a picture together though!

At Dixie Stampede Show - I love their tasty soup and make a copycat recipe of it.

One evening in Pigeon Forge we went to the large outdoor shopping mall called The Island. Rocking chairs lined an area with water fountains and pools. We happened to stumble upon this area when the fountains were lit up and choreographed to music. The show was quite entertaining and I loved sitting in the rocking chairs relaxing with my man. Check out the video below which shows part of the fountain show. The video quality is terrible if you enlarge it. I'm not sure if I can do anything about that since we filmed it on our phone. Don't enlarge it to view and it will look just fine.

Fall colors and temperatures have finally arrived in Greenville. It took longer than we expected and after a couple weeks with record breaking daily temps, we are so glad it feels like fall.

We hiked Table Rock in Pickens County. I'm a slow hiker but we still made it to the top in 2.5 hours. It was a perfect fall day for a hike. The leaves are changing colors and fallen leaves even colored the trail. The oaks and maples have some brilliant colors when leaves change.

The fall view from Table Rock Summit. Notice how many trees still have yet to change colors and it's already mid-November. This late change in the season is different from what we've gotten used to in Colorado with it feeling like winter creeping in slowly and the first impending snowfall at this point in November. I think the colors are only going to get prettier in the next week or so. We're ready to get out and enjoy some fall camping soon!

Stay tuned to hear about where we want to travel nurse next.... It will truly be quite the adventure if it works out
