Husband's Hobbies

One of Caleb's hobbies is target shooting. In Gunnison there is an outdoor shooting area we enjoy going to because it's on public land and free. You bring your own items and targets to shoot at. I think it's really important for wives to be willing to do and learn the "guy things and hobbies" that their husbands enjoy. I know sometimes guys want things to be their own to have guy time with guy friends, but still from experience husbands enjoy when their wives show interest in their hobbies. I grew up being terrified of guns because in my mind they were just weapons and could kill people. This is partially true because in the hands of criminals guns are weapon and in the hands of military they are weapons and defense, but gun shooting is also a sport. Did you know that in the Olympics there are different sports involving rifles, pistols, and air guns? The Olympic Training Center here in Colorado Springs has a huge building dedicated to shooting.

Over the past few years, Caleb has gotten a few different guns. When we were first married, I was still pretty hesitant around guns and very un-trusting. I knew this was one of Caleb's interests and he wanted me to learn about gun safety and other aspects of shooting. We really enjoy going out together and shooting. Target shooting may not be one of my hobbies still, but what it is is special time with my husband doing something that he loves. So wives, I encourage you next time your husband does something that seems to be "his thing" to get involved in it with him! Even if it's watching football, going for a run, or working on his car. A lot of times they will love that you are showing interest in what they enjoy and you may learn a lot of new things!

Another hobby of Caleb's is indoor rock climbing. We haven't been yet since we've moved to Colorado Springs, but we looked at a couple indoor gyms a week ago online. Ironically, today at Krista's church we met a guy whose brother and sister-in-law are managers at one of the climbing gyms in Colorado Springs. We'll definitely have to head over there soon to meet them and start climbing again. Now climbing wasn't something I ever saw myself doing or enjoying especially since I don't like heights, but Caleb loves it and I've enjoyed every time I've gone with him. Don't tell yourself you can't do something. Just try new things and you'll know what you are capable of doing. Tell me about some things you may enjoy doing with your spouse that may have started out as "their thing," but now you enjoy it as a couple.
