A Colorful Sunset & Gophers

We enjoyed an overnight of camping with dinner over the campfire and a beautiful sunset. We stayed at Colorado Campground which is about 45 minutes from Colorado Springs and a few miles north of Woodland Park. Caleb giving a strange pose for the camera or maybe the smoke from the campfire is coming towards him.
With many wildfires burning across Colorado now, the sun was bright red as it was setting. We didn't see the sun for long as it sank below the smoke covered sky and then quickly went behind the mountain ridge. With most of the skies across the southern part of the state being covered in smoke, the sunset was vivid with shades of pink, purple, oranges, and yellows.

The view in the picture below is from a morning walk around Manitou Lake. This lake was a 1/2 mile from our campground. The mountain peak on the left side is Pikes Peak 14,110 feet elevation. The lakes elevation here is about 7,700 feet. We were out walking about 8 a.m. and many people were starting to show up for some fishing. This must be a popular fishing spot!

 Sign posted around the lake

I'm not sure how he noticed these guys while driving, but when we were headed back home Caleb whipped the car off the side of the road and said, "I just saw 3 little gophers poking their heads out." We parked the car on the side of the road and Caleb got a few shots before these little guys ducked back into their underground tunnels. They were such a pleasant surprise. See if you can find the gopher in the picture below.
