Refreshing times

We had a great few days in Gunnison last week. Right when we pulled into Gunnison, we enjoyed a nice lunch outside in their front yard. Small town life and nice spring breezes. What a great break from the big city of Colorado Springs. Krista described sitting outside for lunch kind of like a French side cafe or something similar to that. It was such a friendly serene setting with the large purple lilac bushes in bloom all around and filling the air with fresh scents. Gunnison people riding their bikes by, walking by with their dogs or kids in strollers, and neighbors sat outside of their homes or were working in the yards.  Saying we enjoyed a great lunch outside isn't enough to describe what a great start we had to our time in Gunnison. Refreshing, Rejuvenating, and Relaxing are some great description words. It is nice to get away to the "real" Colorado as someone described Gunnison to Caleb and away from our big city.

Krista & Daniel took us out for our first time mountain biking. That was awesome! We can't wait to try it again. Granted, I did walk up a couple of the uphill areas when the other 3 rode right on up with their bikes. I didn't mind walking and pushing the bike though on a couple spots. It was so worth it for how much fun we had and the others were patient with me. Great exercise at 8,000 feet elevation.

One afternoon we drove to the Crested Butte area which is 30 minutes north of Gunnison. Daniel took us to a waterfall that is hidden and a spot a local has to show you. We walked down this little cow path to into some trees and then started hiking down into a small valley. We walked right down to a river with a large waterfall. It was called Stupid Falls. We had an interesting time trying to drive Krista's Mazda 3 down the road you see in the picture below. This road definitely requires a higher clearance vehicle than a Mazda 3. Daniel decided to park it off to the side rather than scrape up the bottom of her car more, and we walked rest of the way to the waterfall. Caleb & I kept saying, "This is so pretty. It's incredible." The 360 view around was breathtaking with all the green countryside and mountain peaks still capped with snow off in the distance.

While hiking near Crested Butte, Caleb spotted some deer in the aspen trees. We waited while the deer walked out of the woods and crossed our hiking path and then proceeded to climb uphill. Love this shot that Caleb captured.

Next weekend, Caleb & I are going camping and I'm excited! I love camping. I would camp every weekend if we could. It is refreshing to be out in the mountains or woods away from electronics, city noises, and traffic. Something about sleeping outside is quite relaxing to me. I love seeing the clear sky covered in stars. Listening to the sounds of the wind in the trees and rustling of the branches. Smelling the fresh air and pine trees. Sitting around a campfire thinking and talking with Caleb. Waking up when the sun rises feeling ready to go for the day. Ah! I'm pretty excited about all of this and being out in the mountains. Ready to pull the tent and sleeping bags out and see some wildlife.
