Each year for almost 40 years now Colorado Springs has held the Hot Air Balloon Classic. It is an incredible fun free family event during Labor Day Weekend. One of my favorite things about these pictures are the mountains showing up great in the background. Our downtown park was a beautiful setting with a great view of the whole mountain range to let the balloons ascend from. I'm not one to experience life from behind a camera lens, but I do enjoy having some pictures to stir up memories from past events. So I snapped the pictures I wanted and then put my camera away to enjoy this event from first person point of view. It was spectacular as the balloons were launched for an hour!
7:00 am Labor Day Morning. The balloons are laid out across the field waiting to be inflated.
Trucks and Trailers drive to the field carrying the balloons, baskets, and other equipment to inflate the balloons.
Getting ready to turn the generator powered fan on to inflate the balloons
Fun colors everywhere. As some balloons started ascending more trucks pulled onto the field with their balloons to start unloading and inflating.
This balloon had a fun smiley face painted on the bottom with his tongue sticking out and sunglasses.
Everyone who took off in the balloons looked excited to be ascending. Even the ones who were announced as having been in business for over 40 years
The Spirit of Colorado balloon with the state flag under the American flag. Loved this one!
Balloons with the mountains in the back
I loved the pattern of this balloon on the left.
Rubber Duckies flying Rocky Mountain High
Can you tell what this is going to be?
Notice the U.S. Forest Rangers standing around this balloon
It's Smokey the Bear!
Some balloons landed on another side of the park. I was able to catch a shot of a couple balloons with Pikes Peak in the back.
