When we tell people we would love to move to Colorado, they usually have 3 similar responses.
1) Why do you want to move to Colorado?
2) What part of Colorado do you want to move to?
3) the third response we get is: We love Colorado! We've been to _______ city in Colorado and loved it.
OR We lived there and want to move back someday. OR We know so-and-so
who lives in such-and-such place there.
We've never heard a person say they didn't like Colorado. Anyone we've talked to who has visited or lived there said they want to go back.
In high school I made a comment once as a joke that Caleb & I were going to get married, move out West, and have 8 children. Now remember, this was a joke. Sometime during college we started talking about living in Colorado someday. I believe the reason we started talking about moving to Colorado was with Caleb going into nursing we could live pretty much anywhere we wanted because there are hospitals in every state. We talked about different places we definitely would not want to live and places we would love to live. Colorado was the place we wanted to live!
We both knew from traveling to the West previous times it was beautiful and was a great place to be outdoors year round while enjoying God's creation and changes of seasons. For Christmas, Caleb surprised me with a week trip to Colorado. Krista, his sister, had moved there 6 months earlier in July as an OR nurse. We flew back with her and Nathan Heavner. Being out there together for a week confirmed even more this is where we wanted to be. It was really hard to get back on the plane and fly back to Greenville (we've heard this same experience told from various people who leave Colorado for different reasons). They have told us it tears them apart to leave such a beautiful place that feels like home.
I would say some reasons we want to move is for the change and adventure! We want to be surrounded by the beauty of Colorado that God created and spend time hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, camping, and exploring new places. We love what we have been told about the seasons of Colorado. The seasonal temperatures and climate in Colorado are more appealing to us than South Carolina.
People ask us "What about all that snow and cold during the winter?" I say, "I think we'll love to experience some snow, and we'll learn how to live in it just like anyone else who moves to a cold/wintery place for the first time." Yes, we may get tired of snow after a while or we may get the "winter blues" but only being there is going to tell us. It's all part of the adventure and taking in new experiences and changes.
One little fact is I can't wait to see the beautiful fall colors on the Aspen trees.
In another post, I'll have to talk about where we would like to live in Colorado and people we've met over the past couple years who are from Colorado. We know if Colorado is where God wants us then he'll continue to confirm that in our hearts and he will open doors wide for us to get there. We are ready to walk through them.
