Today I read an article on Yahoo News that was titled "The No. 1 Trick to Never Get Sick." Click here for link to the article My curiosity got the best of me and I thought I'd read the article to see the opinion of the writer. I was excited to see what they concluded is what I have lived by the past couple years. I wanted to share in hopes that it might help someone else who is tired of having common cold symptoms year after year like I was.
I used to get awful colds which led to sinus congestion and then on to bronchitis during the winter months. I was finally fed up with it a couple years ago and decided going into the winter months that I would have a positive attitude and have the outlook that I would not get a cold. I would fight them off with my attitude. Sounds silly, I know, but I lived by this and it worked.
A few runny noses and sniffles were expected from being out in the cold, but no cold sickness and symptoms allowed. It worked for me that first winter as I went without getting a cold. The things I physically did that could have possibly contributed to warding off colds was keeping my hands washed well and frequently, taking a multi-vitamin each day, and getting plenty of sleep each night.
I went into the second year, last winter, with the same attitude and once again I did not get any sinus congestion or infections. As it began getting cold here in Colorado Springs this winter and as each kid I babysit started their common cold symptoms of coughing, sneezing, losing their voices, I made the mental decision once again that I would not get a cold and told Caleb of my decision. He probably thinks I'm a bit silly because being positive is not a guarantee you won't end up with a cold, but it's what has worked for me. The article interested me because it talks about one medical doctor's research on fending off the common cold. He concluded after his research that a "positive outlook matters."
Don't worry and dread about catching someone else's cold. Stay positive that you will not catch what they have and take obvious simple precautions such as washing your hands well after being around people with colds and especially after being in public places and make sure to give your body plenty of rest. Fight off those cold germs before they can get to you. Vitamin C can't ever hurt either. Vitamin C is supposed to help prevent colds and not necessarily make them go away once you get a cold. It's better to be taking Vitamin C before seeing any symptoms of a cold. I hope this is encouragement for some of you to try.
Please share if you have any interesting things you live by to help ward off colds or to make a cold go away after you've gotten on.
