Exploring Palmer Park

We explored a place that is sure to be a favorite for us here in Colorado Springs. One nice fact about this place is it’s only one mile from where we live! When I first saw this on Google maps I was assuming it was like any regular city park I’ve been in before, but then I read something about it more in detail explaining it’s a park with biking and hiking trails. I soon found out Krista & her friend Daniel went hiking there. And then once we moved here Caleb & I realized it was only a mile from our apartment. This place that we have fallen in love with is Palmer Park.
Our first sights of the park were driving through the winding roads ascending and descending around curves. The best part of this drive is that it was at night and very dark outside! Well obviously we couldn’t see much of the park area itself, but what we could see was even more astounding. We could look out and see the night lights of Colorado Springs for miles and miles in a 360 view. It was such a spectacular view, and a view we were pleased to find so that when family and friends visit we can drive them up there to see it. **remember it’s only one mile from our home!** Yeah we’re pretty excited about that.

There are bike trails that we can ride from our apartment over to the park area (once we get a bike for me since we only have Caleb’s bike now).
We spent yesterday afternoon hiking, exploring, and climbing over some neat rock formations throughout the 740 acres park. There are 25 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore so we'll definitely be spending a good bit of time hiking there and eventually riding bikes. You have a view of the Rocky Mountains on the west pretty much anywhere you go in the park. When you get to the highest points of the park where the land opens up into fields and flattens there is a consistent breeze that cools your skin that is getting tanned by the sun.
We forgot to put sun lotion on yesterday so we decided not to stay as long as we would have liked. Sun lotion is a must when out hiking or walking around Colorado Springs for a while because you can get burnt by the sun a lot easier because of the altitude. There are lots of changes and things we’ve had to adapt to because of the altitude. Most of them are great! It will take a whole other post though to write about these changes. Here is a panoramic shot from one spot in Palmer Park from yesterday.
